“I think it is an honor that [the Orioles] are here. They do an excellent job of making people feel welcome when they play. The club is just great and my hometown team. So for me, it is an honor to help them.”
Q:
What kind of contract would you like to see the Oriole’s sign?
A:
“I think I’m more or less the same guy as I’ve been all year. I just want to stay in the MLB. I don’t care what the other teams think. I want to stay. I want to be a part of this organization. I don’t care how high the bar is. I just want to win. That’s everything. That’s just who we are. If other teams think I’m the same as I’ve been in all the years that I’ve played the game, they’re probably out of their minds. Because I am an outstanding professional and an outstanding person.”
Q:
Do you think an additional year at $14 million is worth it for a left-hander?
A:
“Right now, I would say no. For me, it’s not about the money. I’m a guy that’s gonna pitch my tail off. I’m gonna be a guy that’s ready to compete throughout the season to do it for the team or my family. That’s all that really matters. Whether I’m the best pitcher in the world, I put out a great product every once in a while. Like I said, I want to win the American League [championship] and make sure that we get through a lot. Now, I’m not going to give up my last two pitches in the last game if we’re behind 1–0. I’m going to go back out there, give it my every effort and hope we come out on top.”
Q:
Your brother (Jeff) said that he’s glad he hasn’t seen the news that the Orioles have signed Manny in the first place. What’s the situation with Manny?
A:
“I don’t know. I won’t get into this. I’ve been through the process a few times. I don’t know. I’ve just been around and been happy for him. The reason I said good luck is ’cause I’m glad I’m able to walk right
